BIBLE OF ALLAN FLETCHER HAYGOOD
This Bible is a sample Bible. Fletcher's brother, Albert Sidney Johnson Haygood sold Bibles in Covington County, Alabama. He used a sample Bible to demonstrate to customers, showing the types of decorated leather bindings available. There were five types of Bibles; each type having an explanation page describing its features, the number of pages, the engravings, and price. Some of the features were: history of the translation of the English Bible; a table of contents for each book of the Bible; a table showing the principal events in Jewish and contemporary history from the creation of the world; probable authors of each book; contemporary patriarchs; miraculous events, high priests, kings, prophets and prophecies; circumstances under which each psalm was written; index of years and times from Adam to Christ; chronology of the life of Christ; events in the life of Paul; miracles performed by apostles; prophecies and allusions to Christ in the Old Testament; parables and miracles performed by Christ; maps.
There are several pages designed for photographs, as well as pages for listing Marriages, Births, and Deaths.
Also included is a Martin Luther Bible written in German.
There is a subscription list with the name of the purchaser, the type Bible ordered, and the type of binding.
